Each park's essentials

Which they are, why those and not others, and the order that makes sense.

Between Disneyland Park and Disney Adventure World there are more than sixty attractions, and we do not treat them all alike. Eighteen carry our essential mark in the catalogue we use to build your Route — the ones Disney treats as headliners in each park, the ones that hold a long queue on almost every day of the year, the ones a customer who missed them asks us about afterwards. It is not a loose opinion of ours, it is the editorial filter we apply before generating the itinerary, and that is why your Route already prioritises them without your asking: marking one of these as a must-do of yours changes nothing, because it already was one. Marking yours makes sense for what falls outside this list.

Which the eighteen are, park by park, is in The ones we prioritise without you telling us anything, on this section's page. What is not there, and is what really decides the day, is the order.

Order matters almost as much as the list, and here is the rule we follow: the attraction with the longest queue in the park you are assigned that day is done in the first half hour after opening — with Extra Magic Time if you have it, or at the general hour if not — because that is the only window in which that queue has not yet filled. World of Frozen is the clearest example right now: Frozen Ever After has carried one of the highest average waits in the resort since it opened — around 70 minutes on average, with peaks of 90 minutes or more in the middle of the day — so if Disney Adventure World falls to you in the morning, that is usually the opening move.

After the first hour the limit stops being the queue and becomes the clock. That is where the rest of the essentials come in, interleaved with the ones you have marked and with a show stop if it matters to you. That calculation, day by day and with the forecast queues for your particular dates, is exactly what your Route does — this article explains the reasoning behind the list, it does not replace the itinerary.

An essential that is closed does not simply vanish: if Disney closes it for maintenance on your dates, the Route already knows and does not propose it, and we tell you so in the document itself.

What happens now

  • This page will keep asking you for what's missing: who is coming, where you are staying, what you have booked. None of it is compulsory, but the more you tell us, the more the Route is yours.
  • We work it out using the real queues for your dates, not those of any old day. That is why it isn't instant.
  • We'll write to you as soon as it's ready. You don't need to wait on this page.
